Điauliai branch of the Lithuanian Folk Artists’ Association
Activity of Điauliai branch of the Lithuanian Folk Artists’ Association (LFAA) is to popularise and to continue folk art traditions, to unite folk artists of Điauliai city and county in common activities, to share experience with youth and to seek out and reveal new talents.
Projects of importance: anniversary exhibitions held by folk artists, traditional exhibition of folk artists of Điauliai region held in Điauliai art gallery (since 1966). This is a creative, informative and educational project. The exhibition is called “regional” and it includes not only Điauliai city, but also other regions associated with the Điauliai branch of the LFAA, such as Akmenë, Joniđkis, Pakruojis, Radviliđkis and Kelmë. At these exhibitions all types of art are displayed, such as weaving, textile, painting, ceramics, wood, carving, sculpturing, etc.
Photography association “Forma”
Activities of the photography association include cultural projects.
Projects of importance: introduction of photo artists’ creative works to Lithuanian galleries, mobile international photography exhibition “Modernaus kűno antropologija” (“Anthropology of the Modern Body”).
VO artists’ club
The artists’ club was established in 1994. This is the most important and professional promoter of various types of modern art in Điauliai city.
The club unites artists of different ages (painters, video and multimedia art producers, theatregoers, dancers, electronic and music club representatives).
The main activity of the club is cultural and modern art projects.
The artists’ club co-operates with Lithuanian and foreign institutions, organisations and companies.
Projects of importance:
Series of concerts “Muzikinës teritorijos” (“Musical Territories”)
Interdisciplinary festival of modern art, called VIRUS (organised since 1995).
Psychosocial projects of artistic therapy: “Be’asmeniđkai” (1997). “Akistata” (1998).

Main activity of the club is discussion events for architects’, cultural programmes, subject meetings with architects, politicians and other domain representatives from other cities at the round table.
Projects of importance: arch-design exhibition of the country “Detalë” (“Detail”) (Điauliai Art Gallery, 2002, 2003), TV programme “Architecture” (on Điauliai TV).
Lithuanian folk artists union, Điauliai branch
Activity of the Điauliai branch of the Lithuanian folk artists union, is to promote and continue folk art traditions, to unite folk artists from Điauliai city and region for common activities, to share experience with young people, to seek out for and reveal new talents.

Điauliai association for youth organisations “Apskritasis stalas” (“Round table”)
Điauliai association for youth organisations “Apskritasis stalas” unites youth organisations and look after the potential of youth organisations. The organisation carries out an active work, taking into consideration the constantly changing situation in Lithuania and Europe, co-operates with non-government institutions, governmental and business structures on a regional, national and international level.
Điauliai association for youth organisations “Apskritasis stalas” represents young people’s interests in the following areas:
· “Apskritasis stalas” is a member of the Lithuanian Council for Youth Organisations (LCYO);
· works in committees for regional and international affairs and informal development;
· solves youth problems in different committees of the State structures;
· participates in regional youth politics, co-operating with partners from regional organisations “Apskritasis stalas”;
· organises training, conferences and discussions on youth issues;
· encourages organisations to exchange information and experience.
Điauliai association for youth organisations “Apskritasis stalas” actively co-operates with Điauliai University. Students carry out their practice, study young people's needs, discuss problems and analyse the youth situation in the region.
Điauliai University student representatives and the Điauliai local committee of AIESEC Lithuania are members of “Apskritasis stalas”.
Every year, during the event “Điauliř dienos” (“Điauliai days”), this organisation organises events for young people. The events, such as fiesta “Mes đaunesni, nei tu manei” (“We are beter, than you thought”), breakdance championship of the country, action “Narkotikams Ne” (“No for Drugs”), conference “Jaunimo veikla Điauliuose” (“Youth activity in Điauliai”) became a tradition. The experience that “Apskritasis stalas” has in organising events is valued by other organisations, which is why they are selected as a partner for the tours of the country: “Day of NATO”, “Day of Anticorruption”, “European Day”, international musical “TILT” which took place in Điauliai.
Điauliai youth center
The youth center is opened from 2p.m. to 8p.m. on workdays and from noon to 5p.m. on Saturdays.
Điauliai youth center was established in 2002. This is one of the largest youth centers in Northern Lithuania. It is unique in such a way that both the formal and informal youth of Điauliai city is visiting the center. The activity result is that Điauliai youth spends their free time and vacation meaningfully. Great attention is paid to various clubs and the promotion of youth culture. The young people are united by a common objective, i.e. to find yourself, to trust yourself and to reveal your abilities. Most visitors of the youth centre are students, aged 15 - 25 years old. The slogan of the youth center is “Jaunimas jaunimui” (“Youth for Youth”).

Activity of Điauliai Samogitian cultural association “Saulaukis” involves familiarisation of Samogitians, students of Điauliai city with honourable history of Samogitia, to collect folklore, to promote the Samogitian language, traditions, to encourage interest in ethnoculture.
Projects of importance: traditional event “Ţemaitiđko ţodţio, dainř istorijos varţytuvës” (“Competition on the Samogitian word and song history”) by Điauliai Samogitian cultural association “Saulaukis”.
Ethnic culture association
Activity of the ethnic culture association is promotion of ethnic culture, familiarization of the rising generation with the national traditions, customs, instrumental folklore. Projects of importance: “Perteikiame folklorŕ jaunajai kartai” (“Transferring the folklore for the rising generation”), concert activity of the folklore group “Auda”.
Lithuanian cinema lovers, Điauliai branch
Activity of the Lithuanian cinema lovers, Điauliai branch, is to promote development of amateur cinema, to create possibilities for young people to present their creative works in film festivals.
Projects of importance: family film festival of the country in Điauliai (organised every second year), presentations and discussions of amateur films.

Psychological creative youth center (PCYC)
The PCYC was established on 07 July 1997. This is a non-government organisation, rendering services free of charge for teenagers and young people. The centre was named by its establisher, actress Rimanta Vaičekonytë and psychologist Loreta Dieliautienë, who united their activity domains in their work with young people. Psychology and creation has a lot in common and ideally supplement each other, striving for common objectives. As predecessor of PCYC is the club “Svajoklis”, which worked in Điauliai children’s clinics for four years and was managed by Loreta Dieliautienë. Therefore, the first volunteers of the PCYC were also the club members and their friends. Since September 1997, psychological and creative activities take place in the center. Moreover, the programme of psychological assistance of coevals on the telephone “Jaunimo linija” (“Young people’s line”) was implemented in the very beginning. In 1998 a Day Center for teenagers was established. Today 10 specialists, such as artists, psychologists and pedagogues work in the PCYC.
Điauliai children’s aesthetic development studio “Svajokliai”
Children’s aesthetic development studio “SVAJOKLIAI”
Children’s aesthetic development studio “Svajokliai” was established in 1993. In the studio teachers work with children following the principles of holistic pedagogics. Children draw, sing, play musical instruments and are involved in drama activities. The main objective is to create yourself, while uniting together in yourself various world subjects, seeking out for harmony and novelty. Quite often children, adults and professional artists take part in the projects. Musical performances, such as “Drugelis Angelas” (“Angel Butterfly”), “Gëliř sapnai” (“Flower dreams”), “Virđ skambančio vandens” (“Jungling over water”), “Debesř piemuo” (“Clouds shepherd”), were created in the children’s aesthetic development studio “Svajokliai”. The music was composed by the composer G. Dapkevičius.
Điauliai University chamber orchestra and the holistic music group “Vartai” co-operate with the children of the studio. The musical play “Saulës kelias” (“The Way of the Sun”) on archaic myth motives successfully represented Lithuania in the 7th World Children’s Theatre Festival “Let’s fly” in Germany (2002). The studio published its own CD. The same year, musical video film “Caerdroia” was created.
The musical play “YAXKIN - Đviesos đulinys” (“YAXKIN - Well of Light”) was introduced in the holkistic art festival “Oras” (2002) together with Điauliai University chamber orchestra and holistic music group “Vartai”. Premiere of the musical play “Vienaragio sapnai” (“Unicorn’s Dreams”) took place in the 4th International Children and Youth Arts Festival “Tarp dangaus ir ţemës” (“Between the land and the sky”) (2003).
In 2004 the children’s aesthetic development studio “Svajokliai” together with Tomas Andrijauskas, artist from Điauliai, created a musical video film “Dangaus kukurűzai” (“Sky corn”). In 2004 Holistic movement theatre “S” was established in the studio in 2004.

Public institution “Điaurës Lietuvos fondas” (“Fund of Northern Lithuania”)
“Điaurës Lietuvos fondas” is a public institution, established in 2004 in Điauliai, which is part of the Northern region of Lithuania. Community funds, is a form of philanthropy that is developing most rapidly. They particularly assist in the establishment and development of communities and encourage the members of the community into activity.
“Điaurës Lietuvos fondas” was established as a response to decentralization and the changing role of municipality administrations, and to support civil initiatives due to stagnation of municipality budgets. This fund is not only an independent philanthropy institution, but also the community corporation. It was established by people and for people, in order to improve the quality of life in a certain geographic territory, i.e. Northern Lithuania.
Aim of the public institution “Điaurës Lietuvos fondas” is to provide charity and support for non-governmental organisations, institutions, companies and people involved in education, development, culture, social care, environmental protection and which (whose) work or creation requires support.
Scientific - Cultural Activity
Điauliai regional department of Lithuanian Cultural Fund (LCF)
Activity of the Điauliai regional department of Lithuanian Cultural Fund is to actively popularise artistic activity, organise gatherings, book presentations, charity concerts and conferences, meant for cultural promotion and support. The Điauliai regional department of Lithuanian Cultural Fund successfully realized one of its ideas, i.e. awarding of premiums of the Queen Morta and Stasys Đalkauskas for the most gifted children and prominent persons of the Republic of Lithuania. Under the initiative of the Điauliai region of LCF, the publishing house “Saulës delta” was established, which, while implementing important international projects, has already published books, chronicles and albums, significant for the culture of the region.

To unite women non-governmental organisations on the basis of cooperation, striving to increase a woman’s influence in society as well as to improve the quality of life.
To represent women’s community interests in cooperation with the government institutions and other organisations.

Điauliai University scientific center for art studies
Điauliai University scientific center for art studies (SCAS) under the faculty of Arts was established on 19 December 2001. Members of SCAS are art critics working in Điauliai University, which performs a variety of scientific research in musicology and art study and who accomplished significant work in pedagogies, ethnomusicology, instrumentology, art study, etc. Associate professor of the Faculty of Arts Dr. Rytis Urnieţius is the initiator for the center establishment and its current director - musicologist. Professor. Dr. Vytenis Rimkus and Prof. Dr. Eduardas Balčytis, famous Lithuanian scientists, took part in the establishment of the center as well as agreed to participate in its work. Art criticist, Gedutë Grigaliűnaitë, maintaining her doctor’s thesis and musicologists Gvidas Vilys and Romanas Andriuđkevičius participate in the center activities.
A research area of SCAS that takes priority, is to collect, accumulate, systematize, analyse and generalise the material about artistic life of Điauliai city and region of Northern Lithuania as well as to publish the research results in the media.
SCAS has already made contacts with the Institute of Musicology at Klaipëda University. It is planned to start cooperation with the Lithuanian Academy of Music, Academy of Art and foreign institutions.

Main trends of the scientific research:
Annually organised competitions of French dictation, European French language, traditional competition for school students of 10 - 12 grades “Do you know France?” and organised French language course.

The center was established in order to popularise and promote the Russian culture, traditions, and customs and to celebrate anniversaries of the most famous Russian cultural workers. The center collects material about Russian and Lithuanian cultural relations, Russians living in Lithuania and their contribution to Lithuanian culture, cultural heritage of Orthodox and old believers in the Điauliai region. The center closely co-operates with associations of national minorities living in Lithuania, Russian cultural centers in other Lithuanian cities, the Department of national minorities and emigrants under LRV.

The center was established on 30 April 1998.

Cultural research on social religious groups
Events of the center
Two public lectures were organised together with the Điauliai Buddhist school “Karma Kagyu”, namely; “Modern Buddhism”, Buddhism religion philosophy by Karol Sleczek (Lama Ole Nydahl’s student, Poland); “Mahamudra presumptions” by Marek Witek Sleczek (Lama Ole Nydahl’s student, Poland).
The lecture, concert and art exhibition “Fluxus gimtadienis” were organised together with the band “Đalikapalikau” in May, 1998.
The Halloween exhibition, lecture and carnival/ festival were organised together with the Foreign relations department and foreign lecturers and teachers of Điauliai University.
Two exhibitions were organised with 3rd year students of the Faculty of Arts at Điauliai University:”KAC lubos” (“KAC ceiling”) (10 December 1998) and “Renesanso meno filosofijos interpretacijos” (“Renaissance art philosophy interpretations” (22 December 1998).
The event “Iđ praktikř sugráţus” (“After coming back from practice”) was organised on 24 September 1998. Summer works were discussed and summarized (camps, complex expeditions).
The conference “Mokyklinës krađtotyros uţdaviniai ir metodika” (“School ethnography tasks and methods”) was organised on 04 November together with the regional ethnography board. The paper “Krađtotyra humanitarinio ugdymo procese” (“Ethnography in process of humanitarian education”) was presented in the conference.
Điauliai University Swedish cultural center

The center was established in 1995
Aim of the center is to popularise the Swedish language and culture at the University and in Điauliai city. To collect and supply those interested in Sweden, with information in order to assist them in finding business partners. To assist in finding cooperation partners in Sweden as well as to organise cooperation projects for different institutions and organisations of Điauliai city and region (pre-school institutions, schools, treatment institutions, etc.). While working together with the Swedish and Lithuanian association, Kristianstad branch, to assist in making contacts between families, to organise educational visits to Sweden, to provide assistance to Swedish tourists, wishing to familiarize themselves with our region.

THE SWISS CULTURAL CENTER was established on 08 October 2000 in the Faculty of Humanities at Điauliai University. The initiator for the establishment of Swiss cultural centre is Dr. Max Schweizer, representative of the private fund “GEBERT RUEF” for the Baltic States. The fund is the main sponsor of the center. The publishing house “Pro Helvetia” also takes part in the project.
The main function of the Swiss cultural center is a reading-room. It has approximately 800 books: belles-lettres by Swiss writers, publications on history, political science, architecture as well as art in German and French.
The reading-room provides information regarding studies, conferences and work on probation as well as funding possibilities in Switzerland.
American center of studies (ACS)
ACS was established on 08 April 2000. This is a subdivision of the Faculty of Humanities. Director of the center: Dr. Laimutë Stankevičienë.
ACS provides the students and lectures of the University with the opportunity to familiarize with the American culture, art, political and economical life, and it maintains contacts with the US Embassy, American center associated with the US Embassy in Vilnius, different cultural and scientific institutions and organisations in Lithuania and the USA.
The American center of studies invites lecturers from the USA to give lectures on American civilization, American literature, etc. to philology students.
The library of ACS has several hundreds of books, visual material and maps. The library's accumulation of books and the possibility to use them for the University community is one of the ACS activities. The books were presented to the library by the American center associated with the US Embassy in Vilnius and Creighton University (USA). Lectures have taken part on the Fulbright projects.

Non-governmental organisation “Muzikos klubas GINGAS”
(“Music club GINGAS”) The band was GINGAS established in Điauliai in 1992, its active concert activity is to influence cultural life of the city and in 1995 predetermined establishment of the music club GINGAS. For several years this non-governmental organisation has organised and assisted in the organisation of local and international music events in Điauliai city, searched for new contacts and co-operation opportunities among musicians and artists outside of Lithuania as well. The club popularises live modern music, helps young music performers and bands to record their musical compositions as well as to promote them in every way possible.
Events and festivals organised by the music club GINGAS:
since 1995 the festival of alternative music RUMSHK;
1996-1998 DJ festivals;
since 1997 jazz concerts;
in 1997 music tour through the Republic of Lithuania “Roko marđas” (”Rock march”);
since 1999 jazz festival “Điauliai Jazz”.
The band GINGAS performing within the non-governmental organisation “Muzikos klubas GINGAS” is one of the best-known bands in Lithuania, taking an active part in various local and international music projects and festivals, organised in France, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Sweden, Latvia and Estonia. In 1995 the band was awarded with the discovery nomination “Year 95” and discovery nomination “Bravo”, it was filmed in the show “Muzikinis vieđbutis” (“Music hotel”) and in a show of the band “Arina ir Veto Bank”, music festivals “Rock summer 97” in Tallinn and “Roko marđas 97” (“Rock march 97”) in Vilnius, TV programme “Tangomanija” and jazz festivals in Điauliai, Kaunas and Klaipëda.
Country music club “Juonio pastuogë”
The music club/ pub has been performing since September 1994. The club is located in a small house, repaired by the country music band “Jonis”, which is situated between the pedestrian boulevard (Vilniaus Street) and the central park of the city, in a cosy and nice area. In the loft of the house there is a hall for 70 seats, where there is live music every night.
Since 1995 the club has organized three well-known festivals:
- Lithuanian country music festival “Country Joninës”, which is usually organised at the end of June. Every Lithuanian band and performer involved with playing and dancing to country music is invited to the festival as well as many foreign guests.
- Lithuanian country musician and orchestra festival “Ant rubeţiaus” (“On the border”). This is one of the largest and most popular country music festivals in Lithuania, which takes place in the last weekend of May, every year. The most original orchestras and individual country musicians from all over Lithuania are invited to take part in the festival.
- Provincial country music festival “Đerifo atostogos” (“Sheriff’s holiday”). This festival travels all through Lithuania and usually takes place in beautiful places, appreciated by local people. The club has already organized 70 of such festivals.
Young artists’ club M - 13
The young artists’ club M - 13 was established in 1994. The club unites young, creative, seeking and interesting students, aged 16 - 30 years old. The majority of members are former and current students of the secondary school “Geguţiř”, which specializes in arts. Credo of the club members is “Don’t wait and start creating today!” Activity of the young artists’ club M - 13 involves the organisation of art exhibitions, competitions, art festivals, artistic and civil actions as well as active participation in cultural life of Điauliai city and Lithuania.
Festivals of the country “Fenomenas”, organised by the club, calls together young writers, theatregoers, artists, musicians and fashion designers. One of the most memorable events for Điauliai citizens was a series of exhibitions “1 x N” (in a cafe “Vara”, exhibition located in the pedestrian boulevard, Art gallery). The city students’ photography exhibition - competition “Mano jaunystës miestas” (“My city of youth”) was organised by the club M - 13 together with the art creator and discussion club. Personal exhibitions of the club members A. Rachmatovas and A. Jackutë, studying at Vilnius Gallery of Art, D. Kulvytë, studying in the Faculty of Arts at Điauliai University, organised in the Art Gallery, received good evaluations.
The young artists’ club M - 13 takes an active part in all festivals, called “Điauliř dienos”. The Điauliai citizens had a chance to see and participate in artistic actions, organised by the club, such as “Đventinis mix' as” (“Festival mix”) (Vasario 16 - osios Street), “Uţtvenkime bulvarŕ” (“Let’s crowd the boulevard”), “Auksinio miesto auksiniai daiktai” (“Golden objects of the golden city”), “Dovana” (“Present”), “Meno sodas” (“Artistic garden”) (Vilniaus Street) and civil actions “Europos sostinë Điauliuose” (“European capital in Điauliai”), “ES’u” and others.

Activity of the holistic music club “Vartai” involves cultural projects. The club organises festivals, where prevail artists’ projects, demonstrating uniting healing, holistic artistic power and inviting to search relations among different cultures.

Editorial office for the literature almanac “Varpai”
Main activity of the editorial office for the literature almanac “Varpai” is to popularise and promote culture, to analyse current processes, to publish articles, belles-lettres, which reflect cultural and artistic processes, to introduce to writers, artists from Lithuania and those who emigrated to the USA, Great Britain, Australia, Germany and Israel.
Projects of importance: continuation of traditions of the almanac “Varpai” (published in Điauliai in 1943 - 1944), seeking out famous writers born in Điauliai and related to this region as well as young gifted artists, writing about Điauliai cultural history.
Book publishers’ association of Điauliai region “Saulës delta”
Activity of the book publishers’ association of Điauliai region “Saulës delta”: promotion and assistance to creators in the Điauliai region, such as preparation, publishing and distribution of books, photo albums, almanacs, monographs, chronicles, brochures and other publications of cultural - educational types; reviving of the best cultural - educational traditions, their development in the Điauliai region and Lithuania, development of cultural publishing contacts with other countries; organising of literary festivals and meetings, book fairs and other cultural events.

Điauliai non-traditional theatre club
Activity of the Điauliai non-traditional theatre club is the promotion of non-traditional and professional theatre activities, presentation of theatre diversity to various groups of the public who are interested in art.
Projects of importance: ritual mono-play “Odipas ţmogus”, “Kitas”, “Hamletas”, etc. Director of the non-traditional theatre club, Audronë Bagatyrytë and actor Edmundas Leonavičius, take an active part in international theatre and modern art festivals in Lithuania and abroad.
Children and youth theatre studio “Kompanija đauni”
“Kompanija đauni” located in Điauliai students’ house has been active for 10 years. Within these 10 years, 13 plays were performed. The most memorable and precious ones were, the first play “Raganos miltai” (“Witches flour”) produced according to a tale by E. Matulaitë; “Dienos iđ ten...” (“Days from there...”), which is about dreams and recollections from our childhood; “Vasarvidţio nakties sapnas” (“Summer Night Dreams”) a comedy by W. Shakespeare, which received the highest merits and was also recommended to the world’s children theatre festival in Lingen by the Lithuanian Amateur Theatre Association.

Committee for the international festival of ecclesiastical music
Activity of the committee for the international festival of ecclesiastical music is cultural projects.
Projects of importance: International festival of ecclesiastical music (organised since 1978), taking place yearly during Easter week. The concerts of the festival are held in Điauliai Cathedral; separate concerts are repeated in Vilnius, Klaipëda and Kaunas. Professional performers and groups of performers from Lithuania, Sweden, Italy, Latvia and Belarus take part in the festival. There are 12 concerts, which are attended by 30,000 visitors.
Điauliai State chamber choir “Polifonija”
State chamber choir “Polifonija” is one of the best-known Lithuanian professional choirs and was established by maestro Sigitas Vaičiulionis. The first concert took place on 31 December 1971 in Điauliai. Concerts of “Polifonija” were recorded for radio and television broadcast in Brazil, Italy, Belarus, Latvia and Lithuania. In addition to that, it published two Long Play records, such as “Senoji Lietuvos muzika” (“Old Lithuanian Music”), “Musica sacra Lituania” and four CD’s. The choir performed concerts in Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Sweden, Bulgaria, Italy, Argentina and Brazil.
